This Blog is for taking off doubts on the system of Afrobrazilian Magic intitled Kimbanda and talk about Initiations in our Temple in São Paulo city or the possibility to go to other countries to give our courses about the subject. The objective of the initiation in kimbanda is the self-knowledge for a fuller life, therefore we believe the magic of kimbanda sincerely, it can really reorganize an important trinomy in the life of any person who is the health, harmony in the love and the finances (money), without this balance in life the person tends to go for backwards. To understand life we have many disciplines that can help us withthe search, like philosophy, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, but when it comes to understanding Death we are perhapsbetter off if we turn to magic and the mystic. And more than anythingin this field, occult philosophy and magical understanding, will beneeded the tools. It is these tools we will apply in order tounderstand our field of study, Kimbanda. To understand Kimbanda first we need to understand Death. Inthe western world the awareness of Death is quite different than whatwe encounter in an African perspective, whether this is in the Congospeaking countries, Benin or Nigeria. With Death we should in thiscontext understand that we return to the source. Death is thebeginning and prerequisite for Life. Life on earth is a condition ofbounty but so is the return back. Grief comes naturally with Death, the sense of loosing those we love and cherish. This change of shapeand the change of all previous known modes of communication breakdown and we feel bewildered and lost in the world. The Dead areexperienced to be lost to us. We will try to demonstrate this is anillusion and through giving an account of the principles ruling Kimbanda we will attempt to present an understanding of thecondition of otherworldliness and also give suggestions of modes ofcontact with spirits of Death, as well as spirit beings. The origin ofKiumbanda or as it is more commonly spelled, Quimbanda and Kimbanda, will be discussed shortly. At this stage it is important to highlightthat the Cult we know today as Kimbanda went through a tremendoustransformation when it met Candomblé, the name given to the type ofOrixa worship we find in Brazil. Candomblé in Brazil has epithetsdesigning their ancestral origin connected to the term Candomblé.This means we find Candomblé Ketu, Candomblé Jéjé and Candomblé deAngola designating what area in Africa they claim descendancy from.It is in the Candomblé of Angola we will find interesting points ofresonance related to the practice of Kiumbanda. Kiumbanda was broughtby slaves from the areas of Congo and Angola. They did not bringtheir Orixas, but a class of spirits called Nkisis, largelyunderstood on the same premises as one 14 understands Orixas, as forces of nature. As the years passed we found two paths divergingfrom this same root, one that is associated with Macumba, usually understood to mean black magic and a general reference tospell working, and another one that is largely syncretistic withCandomblés way of worship. The Nkisis became more alike Orixas thanthey were and accordingly many specific attributes of the faith werelost. Before discussing the origins of Kiumbanda in greater detail,it would be wise to discuss the concept of Death as well as ourawareness of Death and Ancestry.

How do you define Black Magic? Isn't Kimbanda both for working for positive things and negative?

Magic is a blind force. If you drive it wisely and in harmony with the movement of the universe, you have done your will. Kimbanda is much more than this poor idea of doing harm to others. Of course, if you have an enemy, you can use the Kimbanda to destroy him or remove him fromyour path. However, I will not call it black magic.
